94 Tim Atkin, 93 Guia Peñin

Carraquintana was planted over the course of 30 years in the area of Leza. Vines are over 80 years old, producing wines with very distinctive aromatic qualities. Malvasía grapes are harvested when they turn pinkish in colour, so the primary aroma of the wine is both dominant and surprising, ranging from citrus and red notes to floral nuances which are very difficult to find in aged reds.

“Carraquintana is a 1.33-hectare parcel in Leza, planted with a combination of Tempranillo, Malvasía Riojana, Garnacha and Graciano. Spicy, perfumed and appealing, with rose petal and white pepper top notes, flavours of fig, black olive and cooked meat and a long, tangy, well-balanced finish.” TA
