The El Cristo de Samaniego vineyard was planted in 1980 at an elevation of 685 metres. This is the first vineyard in Rioja Alavesa to be planted at this altitude providing a longer growing period, wider diurnal range that lends to slow phenolic development and stability. Fermentation was carried out in concrete eggs and further ageing for 14 months in oak barrels.
“El Cristo is often the last picked vineyard at Amaren because of its altitude (685 metres) in Samaniego. Located on two terraces, it’s another field blend of Tempranillo with less than 5% Garnacha, Malvasía and Viura. Fermented with 10% whole clusters, this is a polished, scented, ethereal red with subtle reduction, a hint of cigar box, summer berry fruit and racy, tangy acidity. 2025-35” TA
