ALIGOTE
2022 Bouzeron ‘Les Trois’
En Primeur Price £19.00
RRP £23.00
This is classic Aligoté, produced and blended from three top parcels of Aligoté in Bouzeron; Les Clous, Les Corderes and Les Corcelles. Fresh and youthful with tension and generosity in equal measure. Fresh granny smith apple, flinty minerality and gunpowder. A pleasure.
2022 Bouzeron Clos de La Fortune Monopole
En Primeur Price £23.00
RRP 29.00
Clos de La Fortune is one of the most exceptional sites in the village of Bouzeron. Planted in 1963 on a steep, south facing slope, with 100% Aligoté. As a specialist in Aligoté, this was a highlight from Chanzy’s line-up of whites tasted in November of last year. It is a serious wine, demonstrating fantastic balance and typicity of the Aligoté variety; green apple, lemon concentrate, with a touch of ginger spice. It is both rich and well-structured, finishing with a hit of flinty minerality. The 1/3 unoaked component really lifts the palate. It is very apparent that Aligoté from this site is something special. This wine will outlive us all.
CHARDONNAY
2022 Hautes Côtes de Beaune Blanc
En Primeur £22.00
RRP £27.00
Sourced from a single site that matures very quickly on the edge of the village of Maranges in the Sothern end of the Côte de Beaune. Winemaker, Max Blondelle, has enjoyed the challenges that this site presents – clay soils are dominant in this area, which is perfect for growing white grapes, but picking at the right time is essential as the site is very exposed.
Jasmine is striking on the nose, followed by good weight and a lovely depth of flavour on the palate; ripe pear and mouth-watering acidity lead to a very long and refreshing finish.
2022 Rully ‘La Crée’
En Primeur £26.00
RRP £33.00
A 35 year old vineyard, situated to the east of the village of Rully, the ‘La Crée’ vineyard is named after the stones that cover its surface. It sits directly below the premier cru vineyard ‘La Pucelle’ and being planted on chalk and limestone soils, is a vibrant and exciting wine.
This is a generous Rully, Max has increased maturity time to 16 months, giving us a more structured, rich adaptation of the appellation. It reminds us of a young St Aubin. Ripe apricot and pear on the nose lead to more exotic papaya fruit on the palate. This wine will be extraordinary in 3 years time.
2022 Mercurey ‘Les Caraby’
En Primeur £28.00
RRP £35
‘Les Caraby’ is a small 1 hectare ‘clos’ tagged on to the end of Mercurey’s most famous premier cru, ‘Clos du Roy’. Almost always the first vineyard picked, this is a fast ripening site with its own little valley of both north and south facing vines on red-clay soils. This is a very impressive Mercurey with everything in balance. A beautiful, aromatic nose of generous white fleshed fruit and spice that reminds us a little bit of Riesling. Great tension on the palate, with an appealing citrus fruit core, finished by attractive, comforting oak. There’s also a honeyed element that lingers onto a fantastically fresh finish.
PINOT NOIR
2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir ‘Les Fortunés’
En Primeur £19.00
RRP £19.00
A blend of specific sites in Bouzeron and Mercurey (‘En Charron’ and ‘Le Vigne Saint Pierre’) planted on clay and limestone soils. No whole bunch was required as the vintage provided both freshness and richness in equal measure. Ripe dark berried fruits on the nose, lead to a soft and rounded palate of cranberry and raspberry compote. Great tannin structure and freshness throughout. This is an impressive wine for Chanzy’s entry point red – immediately accessible in a very good way.
2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Côte Chalonnaise
En Primeur £24.00
RRP £30.00
A new Cuvée from Chanzy and the first to be labelled ‘Côte Chalonnaise,’ this wine demonstrates the fantastic sites that Chanzy are working with in the appellation. From a young plot, planted 6 years ago within La Fortune in Bouzeron, grapes were picked and vinified separately from the generic mix of La Fortune due to quality.
Elegant and fruit forward, with aromas of freshly picked cranberry and spice on the nose leading to plum concentrate, marzipan and a savoury character on the palate. This wine has staying power, the limestone soils in Bouzeron lend freshness and minerality. This is a serious wine and a fantastic entry point into what the appellation is producing today.
2022 Rully ‘Clos de Bellecroix’
En Primeur £23.00
RRP £29.00
The ‘Clos de Bellecrox’ site borders Chagny and faces gently north meaning it’s almost always the last vineyard to be picked. This is a serious and concentrated style of Rully, with very distinctive aromas of lavender, mandarin, spices of clove and black pepper, and a touch of incense. The palate has a tightly knit structure, with a medley of hedgerow and black berried fruit. Great depth of flavour and mouth-watering acidity, this wine still feels young and will unravel with time, developing well as some of those richer flavours mature into more complex and interesting notes. Lots of potential.
2022 Mercurey ‘Les Caraby’
En Primeur £26.00
RRP £33.00
‘Les Caraby’ is a small 1 hectare ‘clos’ planted in a warm valley on to the end of Mercurey’s most famous premier cru, ‘Clos du Roy’. As a fast-ripening site it is always first to be picked.
Soft, easy, plush fruit. Despite this wine not being finished when we tasted in November it was immediately appealing and accessible. The tannin structure is silky smooth and 20% new oak has been integrated in a masterful way. It was a personal highlight of the tasting.
2022 Mercurey 1er Cru ‘Clos Voyens’
En Primeur £35.00

One of the first Premier Crus to be designated as such in 1943, ‘Clos Voyens’ is a 1ha south facing vineyard at the top of a hill that borders a small wood. Ripe, generous, slightedconfected red cherry fruit on the nose. The palate is bright and mineral with fresh pink grapefruit that lingers onto the finish and fine grain tannins to support. Herbal notes of eucalyptus and toasted spice add complexity. Elegant and very delicious, and this wine will continue to be as such for years to come.

RRP £42.00
This large premier cru Côtes de Beaune site (37ha) has many different micro terroirs and this cuvée is taken from 4 different parcels. The 2022 vintage presents a fine, elegant Maranges.
The nose is intense and expressive, with perfumed, fresh red-berries and a floral, slightly earthy note. Clean and precise, with beautiful finesse throughout. This is a very cool and sophisticated. wine, the tannin structure is seamless, like being draped in satin. Very polished for this stage of its development and is only set to improve with time.
2022 Volnay 1er Cru ‘Les Fremiets’
En Primeur £79.00
RRP £99.00
Chanzy are delighted to have made three times the amount of Volnay for the 2022 release (3 casks), this being the second vintage from this organic site. ‘Les Fremiets’ sits just below Closdes Ducs to the north of the village and borders Pommard, sharing some of the same iron red soils that its neighbour is famous for. Very fragrant, with dried herbs, black fruit, lavender, potpourri and orange peel on the nose. Chalky tannins, with a tight and powerful structure.
This was the standout red of the tasting, giving intensity, purity of fruit, perfume, length and freshness. Very impressive at this early stage of its life.
